27th January - Scarlett
Guess what… another early start for us today! We woke up at 6 for a 6.30 breakfast which was super yummy, and then Chris (our safari leader) came to pick us up in three Safari trucks at 7am. We had a lovely 3 hour journey through some very scenic routes and then stopped at a cool shop where we got some snacks which were hugely overpriced but they were defo worth it.
We then drove a bit further before some of us got on mountain bikes to cycle for a bit of the drive which was incredibly cool. We then arrived at our first camp, had a bit of time to chill, had some lunch (rice and beans - our fave) saw our rooms and then were all raring to go on our first game drive at 4.
The game drive was ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE!! We saw tonnes of giraffes and a couple of elephants which were amazing. We then stopped and headed up a rock to get some panoramic views of the park and sip some tusker beer. (Chris’ speciality is defo sundowners) As we were driving back, it was dark so none of us thought we would see much and then suddenly a herd of 30+ elephants crossed the road infront of us which was probably one of the coolest moments of my life - it was actually insane.
We then got back to camp and had some supper which was delicious. Rhodes then decided to start picking up these huge beetles and told me that they could spit fire… which I still don’t believe and never will. After that we were then all so exhausted from the early start that we went to bed super early - and we also had another early wake up the next day - what a surprise. Anyway it was the most incredible day ever and I will never get over how surreal it is being so near to such beautiful animals. It was CRAZY!!
