16th March - Coco
Word of the day: kumekucha.
A simple and cute day.
We packed for safari. We caught up with Tilda and had a little chit chat about many things: fundraising, glow and grows of the trip and what we want to do going forward. Very informative and very useful.
Mid-chat Tilda spotted what’s known as a bastard ship from Tanzania. A large fishing boat with about 12 men aboard. Apparently the ship had been fishing in the area for a couple of months using illegal methods. It did however reflect the positive impact of Oceans Alive work as the coral restoration projects had caused a boom of fish in the local area, making it very attractive.
Tilda reported the boat to the head of beach security who would source a boat to drive the fishermen away( and/or work with the government).
Following this we had a cheeky Swahili lesson with our fav Juma ! Where we learnt many an animal name. Our favs being pumba and simba( big up the Lion King).
In the afternoon, we left to join Michael and his family at his beautiful home, where we built a jiko stove to replace the previous open fire used to cook. We also met his two children Victoria and Tina who were absolute cuties!!
After jiko making we headed to the local village market day to get some matching waist beads and many a cheap shirt at mitumba.
