Happy International Women’s Day!!
It was a 6.00am wakeup for an early beach clean up before it started getting très hot from the jua. #bilingual
Then back home for a talk on all things ‘Coral’ from Oceans Alive coral expert Shakil. Including what coral is, and the threats to its survival.
Very fittingly, we met a women called Amina who is head of a community womens group operating a trash to cash scheme, selling collected and sorted beach trash to recycling companies. This was set up to diversify income methods as they had previously been selling fried fish which was becoming difficult due to overfishing.
Afternoon: We identified the different types of fish we had previously seen snorkelling in the Marine Protected Area.
We headed to Vipingo Ridge for a cheeky sundowner passing giraffe, zebra and elands on the way. Poa sana !! Note to self: Wildlife is KING. Leah beeped the giraffe to move it out the way. This led to the guards taking pictures of our REG and a phone call to our supervisor. The anger was real but lesson learnt. Note to self: Wildlife is KING.
We grabbed a drink and headed to the look-out with our sundowner. Met some golfing DILFS(meh) and tried to figure out if they were nice or just flirting. A fine line apparently. After an elongated blink the sunset disappeared and we headed for some fitttt pizzas and a game of Hot Seat to get to know each other better including the ALS students.
Many a drink, game and pizza slice later we headed home to continue the party at home under the stars with full hearts and bellies.
