19th June - Daphne
As Monday mornings go we were all very ready to head off to the Mangrove planting at 9:00am. The planting was such good fun, and we all started off trying to negotiate the mud and our footwear. Sliders and crocs for some it turns out were a risky choice and we were very jealous of wellies that our guide was wearing. After planting 50 odd mangrove trees and mangrove seeds in total, the mud fighting started (although Charlie was especially quick off the mark.) It was a very happy and chaotic scene with mud flying everywhere, and we returned to get hosed down. Before we left we purchased and wildflower and also a mangrove honey. Both of these were made at the conservation site and were delicious. They defiantly won’t last long.
Returning for a much needed lunch did not disappoint as plates were cleared very quickly. The kitchen never ever misses!
In the afternoon we all chilled out as the mud fight had taken it out if everyone. Later on we met a new member of the group, Kelly, an African Leadership University student who will be working lots with Oceans Alive. We all know she will fit in a treat but it was a baptism of fire to the blunt British humor at the supper table.
We ended the day painting signs for our permaculture session tomorrow and playing cards against humanity, of which there will be countless more games.
