24th June - Daphne
Wow!! I don’t where to start as today was the first day of safari.
We headed off on Saturday morning with a prayer from our driver Moses as we had a 3 hour journey to the Ngutuni Lodge where we would be staying for 1 night. It defiantly felt like a slog once we hit hour 3, but we knew we were getting close as our surroundings started progressively turning a dark orange.
The excitement started the moment we turned down the track to get the lodge, as within the first 10mins we saw 3 elephants! It was a special start to our stay and what was also incredibly special was the view from our rooms and the restaurant. Both overlooked a waterhole and throughout our stay we have seen lots of buffalo, elephants, a myriad of birds, giraffes and warthogs while sitting on our balcony’s or while in the restaurant.
Another equally important part of the lodge I would argue was the included buffet. A 3 course lunch followed as we arrived, and it seemed like a personal challenge for all of us to eat as much as we could muster. Later that afternoon, having recovered from our food comas we went out for a couple of hours on safari. We all loved seeing such stunning animals, and we timed it so we were out while the sun was setting as well which made for an amazing view.
After another fantastic meal, the buffet never disappointed, we decided to get an early night as our plan was to get up early to try and see the lions.
