9th June - Imogen
And so, Friday arrived. We spent the majority of the day at Future Hope school - the first of our weekly visits. We trundled over in the boiling heat and were welcomed by hoards of buzzing students. I cannot express quite how cute these children were.
What they termed as ‘long break’ was spent in the playground and playing football. Lifting, swinging, and carrying all these children around would test even the strongest of athletes. I think I may have actually pulled a muscle trying to bear the weight of a thousand little hands gripping my arms and scaling me like a tree. An adorable assault.
We later took to the classrooms to join in with a music lesson. ‘Jehova Has The Final Say’ was a particular favourite of ours. Charlie and I took great pride in introducing some of our favourite Chapel bangers to the classroom; if ‘Shine Jesus Shine’ makes an appearance in the local charts, our work is done.
Lunch was a healthy portion of pilau rice before a walk through the local community. Each resident was, without fail, delightful to this gaggle of shrivelled, dehydrated northern-hemisphere dwellers. They were keen to oblige our search for refreshments from the local shops.
We returned back to the house around 3pm being sure to drop in at the Express Store on the way.
The day was ended at the house, playing cards and drinking games. I’m already looking forward to seeing the students same time next week.
