2nd July - Maddie

 Like most Sundays, it was a calm day at Popes. Most people got up to go to a local church service, which was incredibly exuberant and filled with music and dancing. Each person was asked to “testify”—introduce themselves, why they were at church, and so on. 

The afternoon was quiet. We’ve been experiencing some power outages because of the weather, and the background track of the rest of the day was the sound of rain and the generator kicking on and off and back on again. 

Going into our last week in Kuruwitu, I’m looking forward to spending time with the friends I’ve made here and enjoying the last few days next to the sea.
