31st January - Alec
While most woke up bright and early at 5:30 for the final game drive of safari, I slept through my alarm and consequently missed a buffet breakfast described as “yum” by Bella. I also unfortunately missed seeing lions eating a Buffalo carcass with its cub’s.
Sadly, after everyone was back from the drive, we had to leave the camp and make our way closer to home. We were lucky enough to stop off at a crocodile sanctuary where we saw the giant killer lizard things crawling out from the river and being fed bones. One of the crocs had lost a leg and it was quite sad watching the scaly dude hobbling around trying to pick up scraps of food.
We then drove from the sanctuary to a place where we could relax by an infinity pool for a few minutes before heading back on our lengthy journey home. However, before we arrived home we would first be stopping off at the amazing Ocean Sports beach bar for lunch. The drive was somewhat uncomfortable on the way to the Ocean Sports, mainly because Dom, Lara, Phoebe and I were so tightly squeezed into the back of the bus that we couldn’t tell whose limbs were whose! This wasn’t helped by the fact that we were all hungry and hot, so no surprise that we were incredibly relieved to see the sign for Ocean Sports. The beautiful Chris (our safari guide) was kind enough to buy pizzas to share between everyone, and I additionally ordered a spaghetti carbonara which was delicious. We sat and talked for a while and some of us went into the sea to swim. It was a lovely relaxing time. Once everyone had payed their bills, a few of us rushed to the bus to secure a seat that wouldn’t cut out feeling in our legs. The drive back home was around 2 hours, and was a lot more enjoyable than the last. In the evening, we got the projector set up in the main room and watched The Lion King!!! Definitely one of the greatest movies ever and was a very fitting post-safari movie. While watching the scene where Mufasa falls to his death, I start to hear strange sounds to my left, and when I turned to check what it was I see poor Rhiannon bawling her eyes out which then continued for the entirety of the movie. It’s a very sad scene to be fair so I don’t blame her.
RIP Mufasa, you will be sorely missed.
