5th February - Will
Today we had a slightly more chilled out start around 8:30am. We then headed of to Vipingo Ridge where we where working at the PGA Ladies European Tour opening competition of the golfing season.
We arrived to a delicious air conditioned room where we were given our uniform shirts. We were then dropped off all around the 18 hole golf course to do different jobs. I drew the short straw and was sat watching hole number 12 where every 15 minutes I got to watch a lady putt a ball, which for someone who doesn’t particularly find golf fascinating and who has ADHD, was not the most entertaining activity. I was sat with someone which made me think great we can have lots of convos however you’d get more words out of a pebble!
We then went for lunch which was from a pop up stand the food was amazing however it was a bit of a shambles taking around 45 mins to get a wrap.
Later in the afternoon we had the privilege to escort the First Lady of Kenya. We held a rope to stop the spectators approaching her however the rope was pretty pointless as they just walked under, over and around it so we just looked like a bunch of muppets on live TV In front of millions (someone said 145 million viewers worldwide!)
The evening was where the naughty business started, we where invited to the party after which started with a long happy hour to thank us for our work. It was absolutely abused by us - as it should of been - but ended up in multiple people struggling to get to the bus on our way home. The bus did 3 shuttles with the last getting back at 1 after a night of getting jiggy wit it. (Kenyan rugby legend Collins Injera was with us on the dance floor too!)
I went to bed at 3 and had to wake up at 6 for scuba diving in the morning which proved to be a struggle.
As a whole the day was awesome and one to remember.
(Note from Tilda: the team were all champs and were highly praised by Vipingo Ridge for helping out. They will all receive a work experience letter from Vipingo Ridge which thanks them each for their input. It is a huge event and it was a great experience for the whole team. Des and I got to meet the First Lady and she commended us for our work at Oceans Alive in marine conservation and has promised us support).
