8th February - Lara
I must admit, today was not lacking in drama. I woke up with a throbbing ankle, a reminder of the night before, when a feral cat sunk its teeth into me. I walked into breakfast to the news that I would be making my second trip in 12 hours to the clinic in order to get my rabies jab. Will and Dom joined me; Will feeling under the weather (ultimately it turns out he caught a virus), and Dom simply jumped at the opportunity of skipping coral cleaning.
The second we stepped out of the clinic, Lizzie received a panicked call from Etty informing us that Phoebe S. was bleeding from her finger due to cutting it open in the sea. We hurried back to the group and were greeting by a pale Pheebs and concerned friends. Just as we thought the dramatics were over, Norah emerged from the sea with a sea urchin stuck in her foot. The van pretty much made a u-turn right back to the clinic, and as Pheebs got her finger stitched up, Georgia, Lizzie, Bella, and Phoebe L. serenaded her with the Mamma Mia soundtrack.
Everything calmed down in the afternoon, everyone lolling around in the heat, napping and swimming to cool down before making sack gardens. Then it was time to pile into the van and head to the Ridge for pizza. After being completely destroyed in darts by Tassilo and Dom, it made me quite happy to see Georgia and Simbi beat Dom in a game of snooker. To end off the night Rhodes mistakenly received 8 plates of chicken wings instead of 8 pieces. His loss, but our win, as Rhodes generously shared his feast with everyone.
Over and out!
(Note from Tilda: the rabies jab was a precaution; rabies is not common in our area and very uncommon in cats! Lara and Phoebe were very brave and Lizzie pulled an extra shift or two in clinic visits! We have a 24 hour clinic less than 15 minutes away and they are amazing at patching us up when needed).
