Monday 22nd Januray - Carlotta

Today was a nice day although we were all still pretty tired from the weekend. We started of with our weekly Monday beach cleanup which was very successful. We managed to collect 65kg in total. We then got back and had a well deserved breakfast. Then we split into two groups; one had a fish lecture while the other learned numbers in Swahili. Now we can negotiate the price of goods at the market on Thursday. For lunch we had chapati with guacamole, rice and beans - one of our favorite meals here. With our filled tummies, Mama Dama and Dolphine taught us to make mandazi’s, the best Kenyan pastries covered in cinnamon sugar! Then Omar showed us how to weave rafia leaves. We made lovely bracelets and anklets. We then had some time to ourselves, some of us having a yoga session while the others were doing some clothes washing by hand. For dinner we had the classic lentils with rice. The day ended pretty early for most, as the sun took all our energy away, but some lovely tan lines have developed.

Oceans Alive says:-

Sounds like a good chill Monday to catch up. Please pace yourselves - especially over the weekend so you have plenty of energy to enjoy and participate in all the activities.
